LEADERSHIP ACCOUNTABILITY & OVERSIGHT

Purpose

This page sets out the accountability and oversight expectations for leaders within organisations aligned with NWAF™. Its purpose is to ensure that leadership practice is transparent, responsible, and subject to appropriate scrutiny, creating systems where leaders are held to high standards of conduct, decision‑making, and organisational integrity.

Accountability is essential for maintaining trust, safeguarding rights, and ensuring that disabled people experience fair, consistent, and respectful leadership.

Principles

  • Transparency: Leadership actions and decisions must be open, clear, and well‑documented.

  • Responsibility: Leaders must take ownership of their behaviour, decisions, and impact.

  • Oversight: Leadership practice must be monitored through structured systems and processes.

  • Fairness: Accountability processes must be impartial, consistent, and free from bias.

  • Learning: Oversight should support improvement, not just correction.

  • Protection: Accountability safeguards the rights and wellbeing of disabled people.

  • Integrity: Leaders must uphold ethical standards even when under scrutiny.
