FAIR TREATMENT, DIGNITY & RESPECT

Purpose

This page sets out the standards for fair treatment, dignity, and respect within organisations aligned with NWAF™. Its purpose is to ensure that disabled people — and all individuals — experience environments where they are valued, treated equitably, and supported with professionalism and humanity.

Fair treatment is a rights‑based requirement, not a discretionary practice.

Principles

  • Dignity: Every person must be treated with respect, humanity, and professionalism.

  • Fairness: Decisions, processes, and interactions must be equitable and free from discrimination.

  • Respect: Behaviour must uphold the worth and individuality of each person.

  • Consistency: Fair treatment must be applied across all teams and services.

  • Transparency: Expectations, decisions, and reasoning must be communicated clearly.

  • Accessibility: Fair treatment includes ensuring access to environments, communication, and support.

  • Sensitivity: Interactions must be culturally aware and considerate of lived experience.

  • Accountability: Leaders and staff must take responsibility for upholding dignity and fairness.

  • Learning: Organisations must reflect on practice and improve over time.
