PROTECTIONS AGAINST DISCRIMINATION & UNFAIR TREATMENT

Purpose

This page sets out the protections that organisations aligned with NWAF™ must uphold to prevent discrimination, exclusion, and unfair treatment of disabled people. Its purpose is to ensure that disabled people experience environments where their rights, dignity, and individuality are respected — and where discriminatory behaviour is addressed promptly and transparently.

These protections are essential for fairness, safety, and equal participation.

Principles

  • Equality: Disabled people must be treated equitably and without discrimination.

  • Dignity: Interactions must uphold respect, humanity, and professionalism.

  • Fairness: Decisions and processes must be consistent and free from bias.

  • Accessibility: Barriers that create unequal treatment must be removed.

  • Transparency: Expectations, decisions, and outcomes must be communicated clearly.

  • Accountability: Leaders and staff must take responsibility for preventing discrimination.

  • Responsiveness: Concerns about unfair treatment must be addressed promptly.

  • Protection: Individuals must be safeguarded from retaliation or negative consequences.

  • Learning: Organisations must review practice and improve over time.
