ACCESSIBILITY STANDARDS

Purpose of This Section

Accessibility is a core governance requirement within the NWAF™ system. This section defines the standards, expectations and compliance rules that ensure all governance content, processes and systems are fully accessible to all users, including disabled people and those using assistive technologies.

Accessibility is not a design preference — it is a legal, structural and governance obligation.

Accessibility Standards

All NWAF™ governance content must meet the following standards:

1. WCAG 2.2 AA Compliance

All content must meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA level as a minimum requirement.

2. Assistive Technology Compatibility

Content must be fully usable with:

  • screen readers

  • keyboard navigation

  • voice control software

  • magnification tools

  • alternative input devices

3. Clear Heading Hierarchy

Pages must use a logical, consistent heading structure (H1, H2, H3) to support navigation and readability.

4. Plain Language

Content must be written in clear, simple language to ensure accessibility for all reading levels and cognitive needs.

5. Colour Contrast

Text and interactive elements must meet minimum contrast ratios to ensure readability.

6. Keyboard Navigation

All interactive elements must be accessible without a mouse.

7. Error Prevention & Clarity

Forms, processes and workflows must be designed to prevent errors and support users with clear instructions.
